DIGESTION AND GUT MICROBIOME
Is your bloating or constipation affecting your life? Have you tried eliminating some foods but you’re still experiencing the same symptoms? Traditional treatments for digestive conditions such as reflux and constipation often suppress the symptoms but cause further imbalances. If you stop taking these medicines then the symptoms often come back.

Let’s talk about vaginas
Are you suffering from recurrent vaginal burning, discharge, odour, pain, dryness or itchiness? I know how much vaginal discomfort can affect your everyday enjoyment of sex and intimate relationships. Vaginal conditions can even impact the everyday things we take for granted such as walking, sleeping and sitting down.
Traditional treatments for vaginal conditions usually focus on suppressing the symptoms and often create other problems by contributing to vaginal dysbiosis (an imbalance of bacteria in the vagina). Endometriosis is a condition that causes severe pain with menstruation but can also cause pain at other times of the month too. A naturopathic approach to endometriosis involves finding the underlying cause of the inflammation, which can be related to your gut microbiome and your immune system function. Hormones for women over 40 – Perimenopause
Women over 40 can start to notice many changes in their health. This can signal the start of perimenopause, which is a period of 5 to 10 years before the end of your reproductive years. In my experience, the early stages of perimenopause can be a time when you might experience the most distressing symptoms of the journey to menopause.
Most women have no idea that their anxiety, stress levels, heavy periods, endometriosis, PMS, insomnia, low libido and even hay fever are a signal that their reproductive hormones are changing.
I believe that women can transition through perimenopause without medications. The most important key to a healthy perimenopause in my opinion, is to be educated about what to expect and why. I advocate many ways to support women with perimenopause, including relaxation techniques, sleep techniques, herbal medicine and diet changes. I have discovered by working with hundreds of women in perimenopause that uncovering underlying histamine intolerance can often be a game changer.
In my experience, the role of histamine intolerance in women’s health is very underappreciated. Do you suffer from symptoms before your period or around the time of ovulation? Symptoms of histamine intolerance can be triggered by the fluctuations in estrogen throughout your menstrual cycle. Some signs that you might have histamine intolerance are:
- Menstrual migraines
- Premenstrual mood changes
- Bloating, reflux, insomnia
- Premenstrual anxiety and panic attacks
- Hot flushes
- Interstitial cystitis

I had an exciting career in land surveying, hydrographic surveying with the RAN, and land management, before following my passion for herbal medicine and natural therapies.
My interest in herbs and nutrition grew from a lifetime of growing my own food and herbs, a love of being in the garden, and a love nature and natural remedies.
Prior to undertaking my naturopathy degree, I completed a postgraduate certificate in sustainable development, and I remain passionate about the environment and biodiversity.
I have 3 grown up children and have experienced first-hand the joy and challenges of being a working mum while raising a healthy family. As a young mum I experienced many years of post-natal fatigue, the toughest years of my life, which I have written more about: my personal journey with post-natal depletion syndrome.
From working with my clients over many years, I have found that it brings me great joy to educate women about how to undercover the reason for their symptoms and naturally support common health conditions with food and herbal medicines. I love to share my knowledge through blogging about the health topics I feel are most poorly understood.

At the initial consultation we will talk about your health concerns in detail. I will ask you about your health history, your everyday routines, your eating habits, and your goals for your health.
I almost always prescribe herbal medicine at the first appointment, along with suggestions for dietary changes. You will be emailed a comprehensive health plan following your consultation.
The herbal medicine is a short-term prescription to kick start your healing and help you to feel well quite quickly. The cost of the herbal medicine and supplements is additional to the consultation fee.
When you come to your initial consultation, please bring copies of any recent medical reports or pathology tests.
Your health plan is a comprehensive document that will summarise your health concerns and goals and set out a realistic time frame for achieving the goals.
The health plan will detail all the important points that we have covered in the consultation, including how and when to take herbal medicine or supplements. It will contain individualised dietary recommendations to assist you on your health journey.
